The Shakehands grip is the allaround grip, it can exclusively play offensive, defensive, and allaround. the forehand as well as the backhand are easily accesible and executeable. Shakehand is also easier to learn for most people.
disadvantages are really only small tics and tacs. The Shakhand has a weaker service than the penhold or V-Grip. the penhold grip enables a natural wrist rotation and can swing on a serve a full 180 degrees at the wrist, whereas the Shakehand grip can only natrually rotate 90 degrees. Compensation for this is use by adjusting the grip for serve and using shakehand in play. The Shakehand is slightly weaker than the penhold grip with forehand, but this is compensated by incorporating more of the body into the shot. I might have missed a few, but these are the bigger ones.
