False: 1Nephi 13:29 does not say the bible is corrupted. it says that plain and precious truths have been removed and yes i would say an incomplete or imperfect knowledge can and often does cause people to accept falsehoods which delivers them to the devil.
True (technically).
But that would also hold true for the Book of Mormon if there was no living prophet on the earth with priesthood keys and "plain and precious truths" were taken out of it by corrupt people.
The verse does not specifically say the bible is corrupt. To me, when something is corrupted it means that some sort of pollution has entered in. I don't like your use of the word "corrupt" because we believe that many things were taken away from the bible. In verse 26 of that same chapter it says "...for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away."
To be perfectly clear, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe the bible is the word of God and we use it as one of our main canons of scripture (in addition to the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price). We believe that there was a time not too long after Christ had ascended into heaven that His church which he had set up on the earth eventually fell apart as apostasy entered in. Without anyone on the earth with those priesthood keys to act in the name of God, precious truths were removed from the bible by men to suit their beliefs.
Without this priesthood authority on the earth, it doesn't matter how much scripture you have, it will eventually be corrupted and twisted by the teachings of men, and they can indeed become stumbling blocks to your salvation.
False! The Book of Mormon does not say the Bible is corrupted, but that many plain and precious things were removed, causing many to stumble, etc. However, the problem is not in the fact that many plain and precious truths were removed, but most people do not know that the Bible in and of itself can neither teach truth or false doctrine. It is an inanimate object, a book filled with words, that must be interpreted to be understood correctly. Even if those plain and precious truths were intact, the scriptures still need to be interpreted by one in tune with the Lord.
So without the Lord's guidance the Bible is a book of words, subject to the whims of those who attempt to explain its meaning. And that is the real cause of men to stumble and fall, as it were. In short, without someone who is authorized by God to interpret His scriptures, the world will stumble and fall, no matter how sincere an individual may be...Later
False. It is not the Bible that causes people to stumble, but men's interpretations of it. Men will twist the word of God to mean anything, like they twist the Bill of Rights to say the government must restrict our religious worship to the private sphere when the First Amendment guarantees that the government cannot prohibit the free exercise of religion.
Men have twisted the Bible to say that you're saved no matter how much evil you do, that repentance is instant and painless or even completely unnecessary, and that there is no hell. Come on, people. We all know that we're judged by our works, that the gospel message always starts with a command to repent, and that hell is a real place. That's what the Bible really teaches.
So do people stumble because of the Bible? No. They stumble because of men's vain philosophies that are speciously based on the Bible.

You're reading MORMONS True or False: '1 Nephi 13:29 says that the Bible is corrupted, can actually cause people to stumble, and can even let Satan have power over such people' And please start with a clear "True" or "False" before you explain your answer.

>1Nephi 13:29 does not say the bible is corrupted. it says that plain and precious truths have been removed<
.
Well if something that's plain and precious has been removed from something doesn't mean that it's integrity has been compromised - thus it's been corrupted?
.
>yes i would say an incomplete or imperfect knowledge can and often does cause people to accept falsehoods which delivers them to the devil<
.
If the first premise is true that would seem to be an logical conclusion wouldn't it?
.
So I guess the key question is: Is the first premise - the Bible is incomplete, or corrupted - true?

its really a semantics game I dont like the term corrupted because of the negative connotations it carries. the way you phrase the question it seems that you are trying to assert(intentionally or unintentionally) that mormons dont value the bible which would be a gross misrepresentation. any misinterpreted text can deliver man to satan. that being said the best lies have elements of truth or can even be almost entirely true. Latter-day Saints hold the bible as dear as any other volume of sacred text despite whatever plain and precious truths may have been removed or revised.

Thank you for clarifying.

However, it 'corrupt' does seem like an appropriate word to me. I'm sorry it upsets you.
