You really don't need calculus for this one. The volume of the ball is the computed using the formula for the volume of a sphere: V = (4/3)π(r^3) Let r = 17 The volume that has been removed by the hole can be computed by using the volume of a cylinder: V = π(r^2)h Let r = 5 Let h = the diameter of the sphere = 2(17) = 34 Subtract the latter from the former and you have the volume.
