Why do you want to give your boss an expensive gift? Remember this person is your boss, not your buddy or someone you hang out with at the bar at the weekend or do you?
Unless the employee is earning more than most of us average folk could hope to earn I would think not. An expensive gift could lead to the boss feeling rather embarassed/uncomfortable.
