Who garnered more atention, Yuri Gargarin the first man in space, or Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon?

    I think during and immediately after each event I think it would be a bit of a draw. After the moon landing though Neil since then has "eclipsed" Yuri in the attention department!

    Neil Armstrong. The Soviets were always rather secretive about their space program - with Gurgarin being an exception.

    But before his accomplishment, Yuri was #1.

    As information, Юрий Гагарин died in 1968, at age 34.

    Depends on which news papers you read at the time. From a historical perspective both should be recognized equally for their accomplishments.

    Dunno, but Armstrong has 1 more letter in his name.. Probably Armstrong because of access to the western media, but then Neil Armstrong has remained a hermit all these years.

    Both did. Yuri Gagarin was regarded a great hero to the Russian people. Armstrong was probably less a hero than a role model but by the time of the moon landing many Americans had begun to feel that the space program was a waste of time and money so many saw him as just a guy doing a job. Armstrong was pretty low key and did his best to downplay his fame.
