I believe General Longstreet advocated freeing the Slaves and then the Conferate States would declare independence. Had the Conderacy done so, would it have made any difference?

Not geographically, of course, but ideologically, it would have.

Don't spread this around, but I have heard about a motion picture script currently being written, that hypothesizes about the current USA being composed of two separate nations, "North USA" and "South USA."

In 2009, Slavery is still legal in "South USA," and there still exists "White Only" and "Colored Only" drinking fountains, restrooms and segregated schools. Interracial dating is prohibited and no religions are allowed there, except Baptist. The capital of "South USA" is Washington DC, and the capital of "North USA" (which is much the same as today's real USA) is New York City.

The border between the two nations is heavily patrolled by armed guards and blacks are not allowed to "exit," but in this movie, many do (fortunately!), via an "Underground Railroad."

I think it will be a very interesting movie, once it gets sold and produced, don't you?

Remember, don't tell anyone about it! It's a secret!

Well, you see, the Condiracy States could have declared Indipedence, but that would have created an entirely differnt Conntrarie. The Unonion states might have been upset by this and the Silver war would have continued.

If the slaves were freed, there would have been no war. Big, big difference.

Not a very plausible suggestion. However, It may have made a bit of a difference since the black troops would then have fought for the South. Northern folks would have had less incentive (at least those who were anti-slavery) but If it would have still come to war, the North would still have won. Just more resources, etc.
