Help answer this question below.

Just changed the battery in my 2003 Corvette, and the check engine light came on. No problem before I changed the battery; how do I reset the check engine light?

    Thanks for your response. The computer reset itself after shutting it down and restarting it. The 50th anniversary 'Vette is pretty sophisticated, so I'm not surprised this happened.
    I do take exception with one thing you said- that you can't manually reset the check engine light. In the past, I've been able to do it with a paper clip once I discovered the OBD code.
    I've had a fair amount of experience with check engine lights. As an example, if your check engine light comes on a few days after you've had someone else change your oil, look for a vacuum hose or the air breather cowling that they've knocked off and not replaced. In most cases, you reconnect the vacuum line (or air breather cowling), disconnect the positive battery cable, turn the key to "on", and wait a couple minutes. Turn the key back off, reconnect the cable to the battery, and 99% of the time the check engine light resets. The same is true if the gas cap is left off.

    The "check engine light" cannot be manually shut off. The best thing to do at this point, is to have your mechanic run diagnostics on it, and he then can shut it off, once he locates the problem.
