Question

Help answer this question below.

I didn't choose AA because I can't believe in a higher power, but I feel like I need SOMETHING, opiates, benzos etc to feel normal. I don't do it every day, but when I don't do it I'm thinking about it. WTF?

I don't think AA states you must believe in God, it says "Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity." A power greater then you could be the Alcoholics Anonymous program in itself. So if that's your only problem with the place, open your mind and don't assume there is no earthly 'Higher Powers' out there.

So my experience is that normal people don't need substances to cope AT ALL. So if you need those types of things, then you are most likely an addict although we do not diagnose other people. There are places to get help, and you don't have to believe in a higher power to stay sober. My boyfriend has over 7 years sober and has no real belief in a higher power. I wish you luck, try going to a meeting.

You do have a problem, but you can be cured, there are so many different options for you, you just have to help yourself.
