I used to live there and there are so many things to do, many free! The zoo is free, unlike most cities (and it's a wonderful zoo), Anheuser Busch brewery gives free tours of their facility, art museum, science center, Grants' Farm and the history museum do not charge admission fees. Tower Grove park is beautiful. Crown Candy Kitchen (bad part of town, but lunch is safe) has great milkshakes and makes their own candy. MANY good restaurants in town - try the Hill in southwest City for excellent Italian food (Joe Garagiola from there.) Of course, you gotta be a Cardinals' fan, esp after their winning the World's Series last summer - with their new stadium! Rams are also a good team and the football stadium is very nice. Also can't forget the Gateway Arch, America's tallest manmade landmark. LAclede's Landing is a nearby entertainment and restaurant area with music and good food. Also Soulard area in old City has several nice cafes with good Blues. Have fun! (I have gotten homesick as I've written this...)

Well, here goes once more. In regards to "St. Louis" as being the "Most dangerous city", First of all, I believe that this list of dangerous cities was most likely statistics that are derived from "Reported crimes" I believe that St. Louisians are more likely to report crimes that they witness than other cities, we care more , and get involved more and not have such a apathetic attitude. What about cities with a high rate of ilegal aliens? do you think that they are going to risk getting deported just to report a crime they see? and what about gang on gang crime? they aren't going to report it! It's all about "reported crimes". Not that I think that TV is reality, but how many cop shows are based out of St. Louis? Not even 1. They are always in cities like NY, Chicago, LA, Detroit, Miami. Also, a lot of crime That happens in "East" St. Louis, which is a small extremely high crime for as how small that city is across the Mississippi river in IL!

I think that "WE" are some of the most "hospitable" people to visitors to our city.

St. Louis is a great town with lots of great things (a lot free) to do, and the best sports fans, too!

Well, with the exception of the huge crime rate here, the suburbs tend to be safe. There is _a lot_ to do here, and the more rural part of the metro area are very nice as well. The person tend to be strange though.

The region is also pretty liberal, in comparison to the State of Missouri.

Some of the best things in the area are really outside of the city. Like the winery train tours in Hermann. (A short trip SW from STL).

Crime rate shows high, but I live 60 miles South, and watch the STL news every evening.

Just mind you P's and Q's, and you'll be fine.

St. Louis is not that bad. Just don't be doing things that one shouldn't be doing. If you look for trouble yes it can be found. (Just like anywhere else.)

That being said do not go to East St. Louis. We were driving once and got a little lost and took a wrong turn into E StL and an officer followed us and immediatly pulled us over. He asked us what we were doing there and we told he where we wanted to go and he escorted us to the correct road. After explaining we did not want to go into E StL even during the day. (And as someone has stated E StL is actually Illinois)

i've only visited for a Christian conference, but downtown is empty and the trains are very helpful. It's also ranked as the most dangerous city in the US. I heard the zoo there is awesome though.

Stay out of the East Side if you want to live. The train mall is nice. One of the nicest malls with a train inside that I have ever seen.

Well, you probably already noticed, it's not Boulder Creek. Still, I'm sure you will find some great things to do there. You strike me as a resourceful person.
