The prescribing information for Seroquel (http://www.astrazeneca-us.com/pi/Seroquel.pdf) says, "Assessment of the relationship between atypical antipsychotic use and glucose abnormalities is complicated by the possibility of an increased background risk of diabetes mellitus in patients with schizophrenia and the increasing incidence of diabetes mellitus in the general population. Given these confounders, the relationship between atypical antipsychotic use and hyperglycemia-related adverse events is not completely understood. However, epidemiological studies suggest an increased risk of treatment-emergent hyperglycemia-related adverse events in patients treated with the atypical antipsychotics."
It does appear that there is a class-action lawsuit filed against Astra-Zeneca, the makers of Seroquel, due to the high rate of type II diabetes in the user population.
http://www.seroquelclassaction.com/ has more information.
I am in the same boat, last summer(08) I was diagnosed with type II diabetes, upon a change of diet and naturally, the removal of Seroquel from my treatment,I no longer have high blood counts,,imagine that!
