Yes - I'm American, and his books are incredibly funny to me. To understand it I think you have to be observant and know what's going on in the world around you, and how people react to things, how *you* think, all sorts of stuff. And there are quite a few puns, some of which I don't catch until the third or fourth re-read (and yes, they are good enough to read over and over again - it isn't just the puns you don't notice until later). That said, there are a lot of in-jokes some newcomers to the series find hard to understand. I'd recommend just skipping over them until they start to make sense, after you've read a whole bunch. Or you can start from the beginning, but lots of people don't like the first few (including me) so I wouldn't recommend that particularly.

Im American, and Terry Pratchett is simply the funniest guy ever. He's also an amazing author-you just have to pay attention to get some of the jokes. Then again, some are more obvious(Holy Wood? Still cracks me up every time).

I really enjoy his work. It is kind of like mental gymnastics. He forces you to think in ways that almost sprain the mind. Oh, and I am an American. Humor is a universal meeting place. Peace.

I love him! his humor is sooo great. sadly, it seems kind of hard to translate it without loosing the effect, (the danish translaters are having trouble with it). everyone not-english-speaking should read it in english, otherwise it isn't really funny.
I wish he was more popular in Denmark - I feel lonely!!

I'm from the UK and I don't find him funny, nor do I think his books are well-written.
