Whats a better gun for deer hunting, a .22 rifle or a 12 gauge shotgun?

    Yeah a 12 ga is the best option. It is Illegal!!! to us a .22

    You can use a shotgun with slugs or 00Buck effectively. It is illegal in some or most states to hunt deer with a .22 rifle because that caliber will not bring down a deer humanely. Happy hunting

    Depends on what you mean by .22 rifle. There are plenty of quality center-fire 22 caliber cartridges that are fine for deer hunting such as 223, 22-250, 222..., any of which I would choose over a 12 gauge shotgun unless you are hunting in very very dense brush. If you mean a 22 caliber rim-fire cartridge then this is not a viable deer hunting cartridge, at all, period!
