I think you may well be on to something there. You can't say that about all Americans but I think the club that fits your description is growing.

No. We are an incredibly pluralistic society. We have our share of idiots. We have our share of brilliant geniuses (perhaps a very large share, too). We have sheep, we have wolves, we have leaders, we have followers. We are as diverse a place as possible while still remaining pretty stable politically. Somehow, the same nation can house San Francisco and Redneckville, Arkansas. Half the country is Democrat, half Republican. Half believes in evolution, half doesn't (actually 49%). We are not all one thing. Some are fat, some aren't. Some are depressed, some aren't. Don't generalize, please.

Yes, but I am not sure that being fat and depressed is because of scare tactics. The government does spend billions of dollars to keep us afraid of outside sources as well as the government itself. This is one of the reasons education is failing. The government does not want people to educated. A well educated populace would have them thrown out over night.
