What is your opinion of women on welfare? Is welfare a liberation for women (ie in the sense that they can leave an abusive partner or raise children alone)? Or is it a means of keeping them in their place(ie by the state acting as the 'man'/breadwinner)

It is certainly necessary. My mother, single with three kids, has needed welfare while studying. Removing welfare is a sexist statement, it limits a woman's freedom. People who say that the system is flawed and that the majority of its recipients exploit it often have their own conservative, patriarchal agenda. Look at their context.

I would have to say that you would have to look at the results of the welfare system. Does it encourage people to become self sufficient or does it perpetuate itself. Unfortunately, I think that in too many cases, the welfare system is a self-perpetuating disaster where you wind up with multiple generations of people depending on the public trough for their livelihood. A properly run welfare system should help people gain the training that they need to be able to take care of themselves rather than having to rely on public handouts for the rest of their lives.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against helping people who are truly down on their luck. People do find themselves in situations where they can't support themselves. However, in the vast majority of these cases, the answer is providing the person with that which is necessary to be able to support themselves rather than simply providing for them in perpetuity.

Welfare has "enslaved" a great many people in the system, because now they are unable to break free of it. Unfortunately the welfare system today is a major contributor to the breakdown of the family unit.

Why does the Law turn their heads when a women can draw welfare and still get a child support check and collect food stamps now let that be a man trying to raise his kids...
    What would happen then???

not saying that there is some women that don't need welfare can see it if your mentally unstable or handicaped in any other way but then there are other organizations that will help with that. What i am saying here there are women out there that know how to play the system, now when you can sit on your but and draw a check for well over a year nothing wrong with your no abusive husband plus getting child support to me thats stupidity. And thats Suppidity that keeps going on and on for tax payers to pay for. Now you got women on welfare that get a check every month that tax payers pay for that have a man living with them thats working but yet when they are getting checked out for a home visit the man leaves till they are gone. Now there would be a man that would pull of this it wouldn't be happing. The Law wouldn't let it.
