You're reading Is David LaChappelle to photography as Andy Warhol was to art?
Comments
Wow! I thought there was more to La Chappelle than than, especially since he is still alive. So much of La Chappelle reminds me of Warhol. And, of course, Warhol also used film. Thanks for your honest opinion, though.++

Personally I think he is a hack. I have known people that have worked for him in the past, and they have said that he is talentless when it comes to the technical aspects of photography and he needs to surround himself with people who can light his shots for him. He is basically more fashion than art. But to be fair, this knowledge is second hand.

They may be right, though. I saw a documentary on him and he was had an assistance to help him on what's really cool in fashion. He also have many people working for him including building sets so he could photograph someone and light experts. I've heard that Warhol did the same though in looking at documentaries of him. Maybe they are alike in that way. Both get other people to do their work!

That is quite true, they did share that aspect. I just feel that Warhol's work was more groundbreaking, and LaChappelle is simply riding on his coattails. But I admit, they are remarkably similar.
