Sorry Scubabob, I tried, this is way beyond my knowledge. I thought the only came in 40 and 80 gig hard drives. I suggest calling Sonny or talking to a tech "nerd" type person.

You're reading If you purchased an original 60gig PS3, is there any built in software that restricts the size or make of a replacement drive? i.e, could you swap it out for a Sata 500 gig, 5400rpm laptop drive?

Yeah, they apparently ship in those configs, even 250 gig now, but my understanding is that it's simply a notebook hard drive in there. If so...then any notebook drive will fit into the drive bay, just wondering if there was something in the PS3's "bios" that may prevent an earlier version( the 60 gig) from taking advantage of a larger capacity is all. Just like win 98 and unpatched xp have limitations on drive size.
