    It's from the Old English "tōgædere", based on the preposition to + a word related to gather . The adjective dates from the 1960s.

    But I think not. That's just a way of remembering how to spell the word correctly. If I had to guess, the origin of "together" would be found in the saying "to gather" As in, to be at a gathering of people. Lets go to "gather" in a group.
