I hear it is dangerous to inhale the dust from pastels. Why?

Just pastel crayons. I've been using paint thinner to smooth out the colors otherwise they look awful. I'm working on a portrait of a girl. He cheeks are way too red. I wondered whether to color with white on top of the red or just remove it.

if you don't have art eraser you are going to have to blend with a very light color and then rebuild the color to what you have in mind.

I didn't know that you could erase pastel crayons. I have all kinds of art erasers. That would be better anyway. Thanks! :))
