If you could condense it to one message it would be do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is a principle that can be validated by objective reasoning, and thus has universal value.
Christ introduced the concept of hell, making it clear that even death offered no respite from God's tyranny. Im sure this scared a lot of people straight. Fortunately, most of his teaching were remarkeably wise for his time. "Judge not lest ye be judged" is my favorite.
