I was in the Navy for 3 years and I was trained as a chef, I also speak Italian and Spanish so I spent a Year in Sardinia as an interpreter. I drive to the east coast to my home town in New Jersey two or three times a year and go out deep sea fishing. I really just want to see the blue waters.

I can understand that you would miss the sea, I miss it too when I'm away from it. Did the Navy take you all over the world? Sardinia sounds like a nice place to visit, I'd like to go there some day, and to Corsica. How did you come to speak Spanish and Italian? I wish I'd got into my line of work earlier than I did, but better late than never. I'm not at sea just now, I'm on extended leave hopefully till January, which is great.

My nana taught me Italian and I learned Spanish in High School and Uni, There were a lot of Puerto Rican kids in my school and I frequently went to their homes. I was just back in NJ and it's the Guatemalans who dominate my old neighborhood. I was speaking to some men and they thought I was from central america. I like accents and dialects. When I was in Italy I could tell which province people were from, by the way they spoke after only a few months. I still can somewhat. My daughter took Italian in college. She's pretty good. I speak it at home and all have learned a bit.

How long do you go out for? How's your cook? The Navy has high standards. Before each meal the officer of the day samples the food. If it doesn't meet his standard he has it dumped. I had pics of my old ship and some of Sardinia before my hard-drive crashed, I'm trying to find them on old emails. If I do I'll show you. It was a lovely place.I didn't think you were rude, I thought you wanted to flirt a bit. I am sorry if I hurt your feelings or offended you. It's just letters on a screen.

Once you have one of those languages, Spanish or Italian, I would imagine learning the other would be relatively easy because there are quite a few similarities, aren't there? I did a year of Spanish at University and I would like the chance to study it more in a Spanish speaking country. I only use a few words on holiday but I feel frustrated by my limited vocabulary. Speaking other languages fluently must be a wonderful thing to be able to do. Which do you prefer to speak, Spanish or Italian?
The offshore trips are usually 4-5 weeks at a time and the cooks vary a lot depending on the boats. I've always been on boats with Filipino cooks, who are pretty good on the whole but don't understand the concept of vegetarianism! I eat fish because I can't live off a veggie diet at sea, but there's usually a fish dish available at some point in the day and always salad available. I'm sure it's not as good as the Navy food. I'd love to see pics if you can find them.

I'm not hurt or offended at all, I was just a bit puzzled by hearing from you like that when we hadn't said much to each other on AB. I'm not against flirting either, but just at the moment I feel a bit flirted out on here, it can be exhausting at times! I'm not complaining, mind you, I do enjoy it. :-)

Yeah, I worked with Filipino cooks. I told you I like to fish so I used to sell them my catches. I guess for an attractive girl, you must get a lot of attention, I saw you address and thought you were open to it. I am actively trying to find the pics. Italian is sort of my second language and as you said there are familiarities so it helped knowing it to learn Spanish. Most Americans don't know a lot of languages. I was in a hospital in Puttsburgh and a Greek guy was trying to find his wife's doctor. The nurse was trying the speak louder method. I approached hima nd hge spoke Italian too. We managed to get him to his specialist who spoke Greek. I rarely check my email so if you change your mind lt me know.

I've had a few fish caught off the boats and cooked by the Filipinos, very nice. It must have been very stressful for that Greek guy in hospital, why on earth people speak louder when someone doesn't understand I can't imagine. Slower, I can understand, or trying to put things in a different way in case some words are more recognisable than others, but increasing the volume? Madness. Thank you for your kind comments. When I put my address on the profile I had no idea people would use it straight away but several have. I've seen other people do it on theirs and it didn't occur to me to email them. I hope you can find the pics, will you put them on your profile if you find them?
