  • iPods do generally use standard hard drives and there are third party companies that will upgrade the hard drive. In general, it is more expensive to upgrade the iPod's capacity than it is to purchase a higher capacity iPod in the first place. Obviously, if you already have the iPod, that may not be the case. Cracking open an iPod is quite difficult and will certainly void your warranty. I have found that careful construction of playlists in iTunes ensures that I always have a fresh mix of music I haven't heard recently every time I plug the iPod into the computer. All automatic.
