They might care about them and want to help. People often interfere with their families lives for one thing.

They cant resist the urge to meddle. perhaps their own lives are not interesting?

Because they have some interest in that person, whether positive or negative. Some people are just gossips and busybodies who would generate a lot of cash flow if they were fined for every time they gossiped.
