Does anybody have suggestions as far as a good bar to go to that isn't too over-priced and may have some of portland's more friendly singles? (preferrably on the west-side.)

• so, i don't know if i already told you this, but the IPA at mollys is from the racoon lodge. they had a mango beer from there as well on tap for a while, but i think it's out of season now... anyhow, i can't beleive you even finished a plate of those fireballs, much less ate two of them! is your stomach made of steel or what? that's pretty f*cking awesome. anyhow, i'm generally too busy drinking the beers at the racoon lodge to even think about the food, but i do recall enjoying some nachos there. oh, and i like their sweet potato fries, but you've got to have it with the dipping sauces. :)

• hey heres a helpful tip. if you are looking for a relatively cheap amber, or ipa, and you live near a safeway, DONT buy anything made by a company called elk rock brewing company!
  the beer tastes ok. on a scale from one to ten, i'd give it a solid 6. but i got some major stomach pains from this bad brew.
  just to be scientific, i went back for a second six pack a week later. and yep. same result. it was on sale, and i always enjoy trying new flavors. but i'm making a note to stay away from this one.

• they definitely have rented out or bought some kewl buildings. i just don't like their beer. it tastes different at different ones, too... but, i love the crystal ballroom & i fairly sure they own that. :) oh, and the kennedy school & edgefield are both rocking as well.

• well, after she said the "m" word, i backed off a bit. so it never left the bar. but i believe it could have.
  what type of micros do you like? i tend to lean towards pale ales myself. pyramid makes an excellent hefeweizen too. but i have a hard time finding a bar that serves it on tap. and redhook brewery makes an excellent pale ale called longhammer. it tastes better from a bottle than it does on tap.
  how was the racoon lodge? i've passed by it dozens of times, and never went in.

• well, i'm glad you found out about the marriage thing in time! yikes. soooo, i love the the beers at racoon lodge, but it's odd because you can also get them at other establishments. when they are at other places, they go under the cascade brewing name, or the establishment can claim them themselves. for instance, the cheerful tortise had one of them on tap and they called it "turtle doo". yum... hehe. also, salvador molly's (carribian food) had one of theirs on tap that was a mango beer as well, but they have taps at over 50 places... or something like that. (there's a list inside the bar at the racoon lodge.)

• anyhow, i like a good IPA if it is well balanced. a lot of places go too heavy on the hops without a good malt balance, IMO. i'm a pretty big fan of amber ales and sometimes a good porter. i don't mind pale ales, but they generally aren't my first choice. one of my favorites is a raspberry wheat beer at racoon lodge, they put more fruit in it than most places. a suprising number of men seem to really like it, too, which is a bit unusual for a fruit beer.

• There's also a good Mcminnimin's in Lincoln City. The one in Troutdale ain't nothin to write home about.

• it is if you see the right concert there! i'll have to scope out the one in lincoln city sometime though. then again, i'm more tempted to visit coastal microbreweries (besides mcminnimin's) if i'm out on the 101.

• actually, i appreciate your response a lot even though you don't have a ton of suggestions! thanks for empathising. i went to a ringlers the other night... i'll have to look for ringos. i used to run around that 'hood a bit more about a year ago. did you ever go to the racoon lodge? it's a restaurant/brewery/bar. i ask cuz they have some tasty microbrews. this coming from a beer snob. that & i know the people there; good people. anyhow, i will go to mcminnimans, but i won't drink their beer. hehe.
