They may become more incensed when people start to eat various body parts. But its a bit like the fury over the Norweigan cartoons. I sometimes wish I had more time to worry over this sort of trivia. I must work too hard. I need to aspire to reducing my hours so I can obsess over the random drawings or sculptings of people who I don't know and stir up global drama. Or not.

i remember reading about this last year. i felt it was inappropriate, but i think any religious figure [be it jesus or any other important figure like buddha, the prophets or saints] might be kind of upsetting.

It is only offecsive if you eat it. I have to sculpt religious pieces all the time and I suggest respectful uses. Some here in New York want to turn them into ice luges. http://icemiracles.com
