  • Same answer as for atheists. Sure some people are; there is no group that is immune to the small mindedness of others.
  • In my experience Wicca tends to be ignored in religious discussion, which is a prejudice in itself. People just don't know much about it. I remember the case recently of the deceased soldier in the US and how they had to fight for months and months to be able to put a wiccan symbol on his grave in Arlington Cemetary. Other soldiers automatically receive a cross or a Jewish star, but our government did not want to recognize Wicca as a legitimate religion. It came up in conversation with some relatives of mine and they uniformly did not understand that Wicca is a religion just like Christianity, Judaism, or Islam. I think if they knew anything about it (most thought they were just dabbling in magic rocks or something) they confused it with Satan worship, which is a totally different thing.
  • I honestly don t think that people are prejudiced against Wiccans, I don t think people know enough about Wiccians to be. I am in my fourties, and untill i became a member of AB, I had NEVER heard of a Wiccian, ( Pegan , yes) Untill a few inspiring members enlightened me on the subject through answering my anoying questions about Wiccians and showing me sites,(thank you AR) I just don't think there has been exposure to the general public to Wiccan ways. I feel if more people took the time to leard and understand the beliefs and ways, more would accept them. Most beliefs from what I see and ""common sence, natural and down to earth, simple Ideas" that many people already feel inside" (at least in my case it is)_ I don t think it is prejudice, I think it is ignorance to the subject.
  • I find that people are prejudiced against anything and anyone that is differnt from who they are...and sometimes against people who appear to be the same as they are from an outsider's perspective.
  • Some people are, but that is only to be expected as some people are prejudiced against virtually any group you care to mention. You only have to look at some of the questions and answers on this site to realise that there is much more prejudice against groups like Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. In fact I would say that Wiccans are more misunderstood or not even thought about than prejudiced against.
  • Yes, but that's only out of ignorance. People tend to be prejudice about things they don't understand or have never really been exposed to.
  • Yes. I think the average US citizen believes that Wiccans worship the Christian Devil.
  • Yes. Wicca is a small, but growing religion that many people know nothing about. Though most won't admit it, people prefer the status quo. They want things to stay the same. Modern America is predominately Christian and Christianity is threaded into our society, no matter how hard they try to say there is a separation of church and state. Modern Christianity is prejudiced against Wicca just as the Roman Empire was prejudiced against Christianity back in the days when Christianity was considered a cult. People see this growing religion as a threat to the status quo. People are gradually changing their ways over time, and religion and personal beliefs are just some of these many changes.
  • yes there are some people prejudice against wiccans i am not however
  • Yeah mostly right hand path religious followers.
  • I know a couple people who are wiccan. I suppose they do what they do. What can I do, they already know my options. Just as long as they dont cast a spell on me, or anybody...
  • only through lack of understanding.
  • Yes, I was a practicing Wiccan and I love that religion, but I had to really not say too much because of the stupid reactions we get. And forget using the word witch, people think you worship Satan and cast evil spells. I worship the Goddess and always am happy to see the Divine in that form.
