Is it possible to connect an external USB hard drive to two or more computers at the same time so that it'll act like a shared drive?

    Impossible. Unless you have a third computer which can act as a server. USB is very definitely a master/slave relationship: the computer expects to be the only master, and the disk will slave to only one computer.

    Alternatively, set up the usb-drive on a server and have the server share it with the wished security settings...
