Why isn't some international organization doing something about the pirates of the Indian ocean?

• Pirates are thugs and terrorists and the only ones behind them are other thugs and terrorists. Arm the ships and get rid of the pirates.

• "Arming the seas" is the equivilant of "arming the highways".
  I didn't say they shouldn't be hung-but I would suggest that it is a job best left to professionals.

• There's professionals that would love to be on those boats to take care of the pirates. And no, it's not the same as "arming the highways".

• It's exactly the same as arming the highways-car and truck jackings occur every day.
  And of course there are some professionals would love to be on those ships-that's the kind of stuff they do. But economics dicate that it is presently better to deal with the pirates that to risk turning traditionally unarmed merchant ships is to battlegrounds.
  I've studied the matter quite a bit and, sorry to tell you, but right now the "arm the ships" position just doesn't have much traction.

• So you've studied it quite a bit, huh? It looks to me the only thing you've been studying is stupidity. And by the way, a lot of drivers do carry guns. It looks like you need to get a refresher course, you missed some studying somewhere along the line.

• When it generates to name calling someone has run out of intellegent conversation. Even in states with easy carry law I wouldn't say that the number of armed drivers is "a lot"-and it hasn't reduced carjackings.

• My neighbor's college age kid is coming home for the holidays. I also just picked up a client who's having a little trouble explaining his income source. So I'm optimistic.
