Just the other day I attended the funeral of a friend who died before her time because of lung cancer.

You're at pretty high risk. Please try to stop smoking. It is NOT easy - but you'll live longer and feel better once you're past the worst of it. However bad it feels to go without smoking, living with and dying from lung cancer feels worse.

  • Google: "Risk calculator, lung cancer". I don't know what your risk is but it's higher than most. That doesn't mean you'll get it though. If I were you, I'd certainly research everything you can do to dodge it. I know there are certain supplements (anti-oxidants, etc) you can take to decrease your odds. My advice: Quit (or switch to electronic cigarettes which is easy because you still get the nicotine but none of the carcinogens); exercise; eat lots of fruits and veges; and take specific supplements.

Oh how unfortunate! Regardless, you could decide that this very sad situation may motivate you to quit yourself.

It seems like you chances are unfortunately pretty good--early detection is best and only a ct scan or chest x-ray will do this. My husband quit smoking 10 years ago--he hardly had any symptoms--and was diagnosed at a 3a Adenocarcinoma--he had radiation surgery chemo--more chemo but the tumor mutated. Went to his brain twice--he only lived a year--I was in shock for he was such a strong man--cancer eats away--an evil disease as you know==
