Help answer this question below.
Well there's a knob-end who picks up one of my neighbours in his van every morning about 6:30am, he seems to think his horn is to wake up all people on the street, as he doesn't just beep once to get his friend's attention, a friend who is expecting him, no, he beeps "A Shave And A Haircut", sometimes two or three times.
I think this particular knob-end will find that he will perhaps have to either leave his van and knock on his friend's door, phone him, or just simply beep once, especially if he wakes my son up again, I'll trash the ignorant bastard's van, and he'll think himself lucky I stopped at his van.
I think car horns should only be used when needed, to warn them of danger, especially if its because of your own car.
But I have a friend who taps his horn to show displeasure when people are not alert to lights turning green or when he thinks they are driving poorly.
He thinks that letting them know that someone saw what they did will discourage them from driving badly in the future (ex: remember to signal when turning, etc..).
To me, that just increases anxiety in general on the road, or may confuse others and maybe increase road hazard.
What do you all think?
They are supposed to be for safety purposes only. I think most people don't understand that. +4
Horns are for emergency situations, I believe.

You're reading Car horns: to alert pedestrians and drivers of your approach and dangerous situations only? Or also for self expression: to get them to move or show disapproval?

I would think anyone with half a brain would know that at 6:30 in the morning, a loud van's horn could wake people up, but maybe that's the problem, maybe he doesn't even have half a brain.

you never know. people can be surprisingly obtuse sometimes...
if you think your neighborhood cops would be amenable to it, and his honking happens regularly at a predicatable time, you could try and put in a noise complaint. then maybe some cops can be around and tell him to cut it out...?
