not to mention we wouldn't use any other kind of transport, so pollution levels would decrease (I hope the device works with solar panels, or I'm not buying it ;))
Many years ago, Larry Niven (a leading science fiction writer) wrote an article discussing the pros and cons of telportation.
I don't remember all the details, but in summary, these were his conclusions:
If you need a device at the transmission site, but not at the destination site: Terrorists can send bombs anywhere in the world. The world would not be a safe place to live.
If you need a device at the destination site, but not the transmission site: Kidnappings and murders would be commonplace. The world would not be a safe place to live.
If you don't need the device at either the transmission site or the destination site: Total mayhem in the world. Possibly the end of civilization.
You need a device at both the transmission site and the destination site: That would be okay, just don't put one INSIDE your house. If a thief knows your "phone number," they can enter your home and steal your stuff.
