I have 20 meg ADSL broadband and my DL speed is around 1.6MB/s, my upload speed is 1.3 meg (120KB/s).

You're reading I just re installed win xp and ever day or so of use it wont connect to the internet. list of failed fixes: ping Google, dis/in able eth card, dis/is able iwfi card, renew ip w. ipconfig. However I can ping local computers & local comps can access the net

yes all the other computers on the network can connect fine.
I can remote desktop into the other local computers when this happens but no internet connection. its fixed easily enough by restarting the machine but this gets teatious after a bit.

I think there might be something interfering with internet drivers and/or connection. Have you checked for viruses? Do you get "Limited or no connectivity" error message?

no "limited or no connectivity" error message which is odd because that's exactly what that error is for.
I can't find any virious or other similarly icky things and the antivirous / spyware / rootkit programs are up to date.
however I like the driver idea I cant believe I didn't think of that but that's the point of sights like this hungh.
