You know, I am so sick of all of these "do-gooders" giving answers like "just pay your bill" or "you will charged criminally"! Are you people for real? Or are you employees of the cable companies paid to monitor these so called freedom of speech online conversations? That's it, you must be the cable police. Let's not forget one thing here buckos..... CABLE TV COMPANIES STOLE OUR RIGHT TO WATCH LOCAL CHANNELS FOR FREE AS IT HAS BEEN SINCE TV FIRST CAME ON THE SCENE! It is THEY who are the opportunistic thieves preying on people who no longer have a choice in this monopoly of HD only airwaves. You see... some people live in areas where they have limited airwave access or CANNOT AFFORD to go out and buy new "latest technology" equipment, yet again to keep up with choices that big companies and lobbyists have voted in and funded to happen. Why are WE, the consumers, left to keep up and foot the bill personally? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO PLUGGING IN THE TV AND GETTING A FEW LOCAL CHANNELS? This should be FREE from the cable company and if you want to upgrade to paid channels, THEN you have the option to do so. Don't take away the basic local service we all had before and then hold us hostage for money and prices that we have no control over. And by the way, I don't know if you goody goodies have heard, but... there is a real economic disaster going on in this country that is NOT the fault of the average working person who incidentally is PAYING FOR IT through their hard work via over taxation. So why resent them a little f***ing entertainment when they get home, exhausted with no extra money do anything else?! Wow!
reconect! now

I would advise you to call your cable company for the answer to that.

I realize that this is an old thread but...
So much of what you have said is completely untrue.
1. Don't try to curtail my right to freedom of speech by accusing me of being the cable police.
2. No one stole your right to watch free over the air television broadcasts.
3. The HD transition was mandated by the FCC. Not the cable companies. In order for cable companies to provide their customers the ability to continue watching local broadcaster channels they spent billions of dollars in equipment that will become obsolete in 2011. They cable companies will never recoup that investment. Nor does the equipment hold any value. The equipment used to convert analog to digital will no longer be needed when the analog channels are finally shut down on 2011.
4. If you invest in an HD antenna and an HD capable TV set you will still be able to receive a few off air broadcasters for free. The cable company has nothing to do with this.
5. In the beginning broadcasters used to pay the cable company to be included in the cable company's lineup. They saw this as a way to reach many more customers. Customers that they would not be able to reach otherwise. Eventually, the broadcasters got a little too greedy and cable companies were then required to pay them to carry them on the cable lineup. The broadcasters continue to demand more payment for the rights to carry that station. Unfortunately, this cost must be passed on to the subscriber. You have no idea how the payment mode works, so you have no idea how much money cable companies are paying the broadcasters.
I cannot comment on your personal finances.
