Short of having to ask my unfriendly, possibly dishonest neighbor, how can I find out who's fence it is that divides our yards?

    You will have to measure the property line from the deed description, or hire a surveyor to do it. +4

    generaly the posts or the ugly side of the fence is on the owners side

    -When I lived in Vancouver, WA, there were markers built into the curbs that marked property lines.
    -The county may be able to mark your property line.
    -Check the contract you signed whey you bought the house, it might say you are buying a fence with the property.
