I am not sure of your age so these may be a little young for you (though as an adult I still enjoy re-reading them occasionally) but author Gordon Korman wrote a couple of series as well as some great independent books. I am a total bookworm and he was my favorite growing up. His books are smart and hilarious.

Read Charles DeLints books. A lot of his characters are teens. George RR Martin Game of Thrones series
Have you tried anything by Scott Card Orson or Guy Gavriel Kay? I think you'd probably be into those two. Or also try typing in your fave authors on the infloox site and they'll show you a list of compatibilities you'd dig.

OMG I can't believe, there is another Gordon Korman fan on answerbag! This site is so great. The stories are so timeless, my son loves him too! He likes the new series 39 clues, but being from a different generation ofcourse I love Bruno and Boots! "Beware the Fish" was my favourite! Or for single stories it has to be "Our man Weston" How about you? Thanks for posting!
