Check your device manager. Is there any yellow shields next to it?. You may need to update drivers. Also check the speaker icon down on the task bar. Make sure the volume is turned up.
i have altered my sound settings in vlc media player and to no avail the sound is really bassy and i cant get it back to normal.

I'm trying to play a video via HDMI out to my TV; I get video but no audio. What's up & how can I get both video/audio out to my TV? My computer is a HP dv5 1000us laptop-Vista Home Prem.,using HDMI cable. The video on TV is good-no outputted audio.

You're reading Upgraded my laptop last night from xp home to a version of xp professional. But now, the in-built speakers don't work? Any way to fix this?
