Help answer this question below.
The wood doesn't have tar and nicotine and all the other great chemicals.
And the smoke is supposed to go up the chimney!
I've spent a bit of time discussing self destructive behavior and hypocrisy is the rule. Fire places are "good" smoking anything is "bad" welcome to the totally screwed up world of Political Correct Thinking. Sugar, alcohol and caffeine are as subject to abuse as tobacco or any street drug, they are also as destructive to your health. How about junk food? When are they going to outlaw that form of slow suicide?
1) cigarette smoke gives off chemicals that are dangerous to the body
2) smoke from indoor fires typically go UP the chimney.
What do you think the chimney is for? There is no smoke going in the house, if there is, run like hell. Also it is not giving off tobacco poisons. Not all smoke is that dangerous.
For one thing, smoking indoors isn't a crime in the first place. And fireplaces are designed to vent, so most of the smoke leaves the building. And gas fireplaces, which are very common nowadays, produce virtually no smoke because they burn natural gas, not wood.
And fireplaces have become so commonplace, that outlawing them because they produce smoke is like outlawing milk chocolate because it isn't healthy.
Must be something to do with the different chemicals involved.
Because fireplaces...are typically...right under chimneys.
Did you think before asking this question!?
My son is extremely allergic to wood smoke. Enters a room or business were they use wood, he is unable to breath. We rush him to the hospital and or start breathing treatments. I would like it outlawed; however, I would be happy with a sign "this establishment/home uses wood".
No, actually, fireplaces have been banned in a LOT of places by the progressives. And I don't think that wood smoke is considered second-hand smoke.
Actually in my area we have a 'spare the air day', when the air quality is very bad, we are asked to not burn our fireplaces and/or wood stoves.

You're reading If secondhand smoke indoors is so dangerous why haven't they outlawed fireplaces?

In fact wood does have tar and nicotine in its smoke. There is nothing especially dangerous about tobacco that you can't find in the burning of any other kind of plant.
