Given its astronomical wealth, does the name "Luxembourg" have anything to do with luxury, or its French equivalent, "de luxe"?

    No,sorry,you are guessing,but barking up the wrong tree. It has nothing to do with luxury,in any language.
    Luxembourg is part of a tripartite Union of Low countries including Belgium,Netherlands (Holland),and are often referred to as The "Be-Ne-Lux" countries,which is an acronym of BE,NE and LUX.
    This name was coined in August 1946 by a Belgian newspaper correspondent.
    THe origins of the name "Luxembourg" go right back to medieval historical origins around 963AD. Luxembourg is also known as The Grand Duchy Of Luxembourg,and it is also the Capital City of this small couuntry.
