exposure, exposure, exposure. and stop worrying about appearing nervous. showing your symptoms is not that terrible of a thing. consult a therapist if need be.

Slowly get out and meet people or go to places people are: malls, movies, etc. Start with 15 min. Then go to 30 then an hour. Eventually you won't be as anxious. You have a real disorder and that can't be treated overnight. A great therapist would also help and there are some medications (if you wish to go that route) that help with it. GL

By slowly incorporating socialing into your life. The more experience you get; the less anxiety you feel.

    Oh this is easy.

Go up to a complete stranger and say Hello. Tell them your name and ask them how they are doing.

Then when your done talking with them, go to someone else.

You will beat anxiety in no time!

Get comfortable being around just a couple of people and then a few more. Some people never get to where they like being around large numbers -- I prefer small groups myself.

Read "How to win friends and influence people" written by Dale Carnegie. Then just practice.

First, take advice from people here cautiously! Most of us here aren't mental health professionals and from what I've seen, the majority of the answers about this range from inaccurate to absolutely rediculous! I can tell you from personal experience that it takes ALOT of personal work on your part which (unfortunately) includes seeing a therapist (get a good one..PhD level).

I CAN tell you from experience that it truly helps to force yourself to be in the middle of social situations. If you shut down and lock yourself inside your house, the sickness feeds on itself and gets worse.

    Hope that helps.
