That is the way God created us.
Man most likely developed the "hooded" nose when he learned how to swim/dive, to prevent him from getting water into his nose. Man needed to go swimming/diving as a way to gather important nutrients that were necessary for large-brain development. These nutrients would not have been available in a land-only based diet.
