"The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins would be a good start. Look into how the priests with the conquistadors burned all the Mayan codex that held important info that could help interpret their hieroglyphs. Why their calendar ends 2012. The list goes on. You are better off looking for direct events where the church snubbed out countless cultures.
Why do you want to support a lie?
A few things where the Catholic Church has made the world a better and brighter place are:
+ Relief from the Barbarian invasions of the early middle ages
+ Rescued Christian and pre-christian literature
+ Spread agricultural and animal husbandry knowledge
+ Started and protected universities
+ Sponsored and supported science and medicine
+ Created International Law theory
+ Developed and sponsored modern economic theory
+ Invented charity as we know it
+ Codified, expanded, and improved Western Law
+ Developed Western Morality
+ Created just war theory
+ Sponsored and influenced art and architecture
+ Developed the concept of inalienable rights
I suggest you read the book "How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization" by Thomas E. Woods, Jr. http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/history/world/wh0101.html
With love in Christ.
While I disagree with the statement that Christianity is the most detrimental thing to happen to religion/humanity in general, I will point you to a few sites that do agree ... good luck.

Thanks for asking the question. If I wasn't so caught up in the reality of truth, I might consider reading some other points of view. +4
Such a question here is likely to start a holy war. You want us Christians to explain how our chosen religion has been more detrimental than any other?
If you just want to do a slash job, the Bible will do. If you want to see your premise torn apart, beware of people who have read histories of the 20th century.
At the moment with the rise of Christian fundamentalism, (and the history of colonialism and the crusades) I would tend to agree with your statement. What is so frightening about it is the determination to explain everything biblically, ignoring scientific discovery. What got to me was that in a Christian evangelical school the only explanation for the spread of AİDS was 'sinful behaviour' ignoring AİDS spread through blood transfusions, and to dentists and doctors through their work in hospitals and surgeries. Not only that but the school claims that the moon's trajectory is explained in the Bible and Noah's ark can be explained scientifically. So, Yes, it is detrimental to the education of children.

You're reading I am doing a persuasive essay for my English class, and was wondering if someone might direct me to sites that offer support as Christianity being the most detrimental thing to happen to religion/humanity in general.

+4 The God Delusion is great in terms of demonstrating why God probably doesn't exist but God Is Not Great by Chris Hitchens is probably better for arguing the reasons why Christianity and religions generally are damaging to humanity.

evolution has many intricate workings, one being the "meme" and religion is a very good example, how and idea spreads like a virus.
