Help answer this question below.
I don't even understand why someone would cut themselves? Is it half-hearted suicide or what? Can u explain y u do that?
yeah...I might give her some relief and let her know that you're gonna be alright and you will take better care of yourself.I have a friend who cuts herself and I know I would like to see HER do that.
yea it'll help. but you should also tell an adult, like a counselor or teacher or parent you trust. knowing that a friend is cutting is a big burden on your bff. you should try and take a load off of their shoulders by letting others in on your efforts. this is *especially* true if you think you might relapse.. this doesn't sound like the first time you tried to stop .
I apologize for the horrendous butchering of the English language found in this question, but it was all I could do to fit the character limit. I hope it doesn't bother you as much as it does me. :)
i would only do that if she knows your cutting in the first place. it would absolutely freak her out if you were just like 'hey can you watch me do something?' then started pulling blades out left right and center. but if she does know then i think it would be a great idea, as if she is you bff she cares about you and would love to see you trying to step away from this destructive behavior
what when you have no clue what to do with your life its useless to you and your still a teenager? And you cant stop cutting your self?

Actually, I would be GLAD to explain. Self injury is typically not "half-hearted suicide". In many cases, it's the exact opposite. SI is typically a coping mechanism, albeit an unhealthy one. This can be compared to the much less detrimental thumb sucking in young children or rocking in autistic people. I can't even explain why I do it, really. I've self injured for as long as I remember. Of course, the actual cutting began recently, in the last year or so, but it was sort of the natural development of the SI that has been going on for my entire life. I can't exactly point to the reason that I SI at all, except that I was raised in less than optimal conditions, and that I doubtless suffer from mental illnesses (undiagnosed or not). One thing I do know is that SI DOES offer me temporary relief. I know it sounds crazy, because it is. One has to have something "not right" to get and relief from SI, and it's very difficult to explain how it offers relief unless the other person can relate.

Also, SI is seen by many as by many who practice it as a way to PREVENT them from committing suicide. The relief it offers, however temporary, can give a person just enough slack so that they can "take a step or two away from the edge" and avoid doing something more drastic. Again, it's quite difficult, even impossible, to explain WHY one would cut, as opposed to coping in another way, when faced with problems. I'm sorry I couldn't make this as clear as I wanted to, but feel free to ask if you want to know anything specific... I think knowledge is the best tool to making the world a better place!

I see what you're saying. But really, what do you do to make your life productive? Why don't you find things that NEED to be done so you won't have enough time on your hands to sit around thinking about how useless and/or troubled you are. The MAJORITY of everyone I've ever known grew up in less than optimal conditions. So that's no reason. Make yourself useful.

Erm... I've written a book, I have over 400 hours of volunteer service this month alone, I'm an active member of ten clubs, I'm on the robotics team, I'm active at church, I'm active politically, I have hobbies, I have a social life. Pretty much the only thing going against me here is abuse, and a genetic predisposition to depression. I am making my self useful, but it isn't enough.

It's a fantasy book for middle grades level, and runs about 92 thousand words. It's protagonist is a ten year old girl named Clara.
