  • You can only tell if you get a call back for a follow-up interview. These days employers often do not contact the people they're NOT hiring, even though that is just common courtesy in my book, to tell them "no thank you." Good luck.
  • The best way to avoid this issue is during the interview often there will be a point where you get to ask them questions. If you ask "How will the process work for making a decision and what is the next step?", often you will something more than we'll call you. The second thing you can do is to say something like, 'If I were to start this job, what is the first thing you would need done and is there a deadline for getting it done?" This type of question indirectly gives you some sense of when they will be hiring. Unfortunately after you have left, there is little you can do but light a candle and hope for a call.
  • You could send an email thanking them for the opportunity of interviewing with them and say you look forward to their decision. This may illicit a response. Good luck!
  • It's hard to tell. Sometimes they have to interview everyone on a short-list but to be honest it doesn't sound good if they told you ..."and further if they have to". How did you feel after the interview? Sometimes you just know.
