Help answer this question below.
I think pretty is only skin deep, but beauty is holistic so in my opinion the use of the term beauty to describe something that is pretty is incorrect and causes confusion. +3
I dont believe so and never did. There are many who do not see beyond the external aspect. This is a shallow perspective to me and they deny them selves the knowledge of diversity and have narrow lives and interests.
It limits them.
beauty is subjective, mostly because your past experiences define your future ones. Yes, we come to conclusions that have been socially burned into our mind (skinny is good, blondes are dumb, etc), but it is our own experiences, our own pain, and our own hearts that determine beauty.
true beauty requires more than a few sweeps of blush, or styled hair. it's the connection you make with that beauty. and from there, from that CONNECTION, does beauty become just skin deep, or something more... something concrete.
There are many forms of beauty, some hidden deeply that must be uncovered to be appreciated...
No but it usually stops at the bones though since that's when we stop being pink on the inside and we all look rather white.
The question arises; What is true beauty? Physical beauty or inner beauty? Physical beauty is only skin deep (superficial) whereas inner beauty goes to the bone.

True beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
beauty is multi-dimensional
What is beauty?
Beauty is both. Clich'e but it is in the eye of the beholder. I can be as beautiful in appearance but the most uncaring selfish person that holds ugly attributes. I could be a caring, honest person beautiful charicteristics but ugly in appearance so it depends on the context being used.
There's 7 layers of skin, I deep can you go.
False, its in the eye of the beholder!!!

Sometimes what you see outside is what you also see inside.
It is and it isn't. I have found that if I step back and really look at a close friend of mine, they look very different then I think of them looking. A great personaility really adds a glow to a person that covers up their flaws and makes them look more beautiful. The same goes for mean people. They may be beautiful, but it isn't a radiating beauty.
Visual beauty definitely is!

"Beauty has seven sisters and each is more lovely than she"
Yep. Ever seen a person who was gorgeous AND had no skin?
Beauty is how you interpret it. It's mind deep.
Wholeheartedly.
I'm hoping it don't wash of with time....hehe
True. I've only met one beautiful person that was worth getting to know.
"Be weak if you want to love" -- But isn't love not for the faint-hearted? Do you agree with that?

You're reading Is it true beauty is only skin deep?what you think?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:

There is confusion around this saying. I've always understood it to mean that physical beauty (or prettiness) is only superficial (like skin) whereas other qualities (like character) really make the person.

Yeah, semantics. Me too, MM.
Great answer, Djinn!

What do you guys think about cute? Cause to me cute is naturally pretty, implying that it may last into old age. I.E. "that old woman is cute and must have been pretty in her youth." Do you agree or do you have a different personal definition?
by Djinn on November 29th, 2009
I dunno. I hear what you're saying about the occasionally remarkable longevity of physical feminine beauty. But I always thought of "cute" as maybe a notch or two below "beautiful". Like "cute" is more generic, *more* transitory, ephemeral and/or superficial, not the opposite as you note, Djinn. But of course we're only talkin' personal definitions.

Cute is when someone is beautiful but not in the conventional or classical definition of "Beautiful". Like a newborn baby or a monkey or Shrek's wife. ;-D

LoL @ Marky Mark.
Ok guys cool I like seeing dif. POV's

i mean,sexy ,gorgeous,good looking.
by daredevil on November 30th, 2009
Well in that narrowed sense, sure. Would one normally think of someone's liver or kidneys as "beautiful"?
