Help answer this question below.
Yes; actually I had a car that ran out of gas all the time because it didn't register whether it was full or not. The gas tank fell off of it at one point and was hooked up through the trunk! I kept a 5 gallon gas can in the trunk too so I could fill it up when it ran out! That was when I was young. It sucks when you can't afford to purchase a decent car, but really need one!
yes
Yes. I've coasted up to a gas pump on 2 occasions.
I had a '67 Mustang that had a broken fuel gauge, it would run out all of the time. I kept a gas can in the trunk so I would be able to get to a gas station and was never stranded. I used to stick a leather belt into the tank to see how much gas there was.
Yes. About 1975. I was dirt poor, had a 1963 Bel Air station wagon. Left rear quarter panel wrecked. bought it that way for $150. That's where the tank was. It would only hold 4 gallons b4 it would leak. Gauge didn't work. I would stop every day and add $2 = ~4 gal. I miscalculated once. Ran out of gas, and coatsted up to an Exxon pump. Life was simple when I was poor.
