Should people with mental disabilities be forced to wear some sort of signal in public, maybe like a star or something, to let others know that the person they are dealing with may have some issues should something happen?

that would be really difficult. It would mean the about 96% of the people I work with would be wearing "the mark." It would look like the company uniform.

I see your point, but this sounds like an invasion of privacy. I'd be more worried about having isues withthe people who haven't been diagnosed yet!

No, because you would be making that person a target of persecution.

There was another group that was forced to wear stars and look how that turned out.

Not forced but I would imagine some wear things like medical alert bracelets. You know, that alert medical people to allergies, stuff like that.

No. but I think it would be a great idea for sex offenders, and in some cases, people with a violent criminal past.

The last time this sort of thing happened was augmented by the Nazi Party . We all know how that finished up . I hope you are ashamed at asking this question .

    1) No, this would probably only reinforce the social stigma associated with the mentally challenged. Also, this kind of things should never be compulsory.

    Further information:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_stigma

    2) By the way, for those who did make here a "reductio ad Hitlerum", I found out that the Nazis did not invent such badges:

"The yellow badge (or yellow patch), also referred to as a Jewish badge, was a cloth patch that Jews were ordered to sew on their outer garments in order to mark them as Jews in public. It is intended to be a badge of shame associated with antisemitism. In both Christian and Islamic countries, persons not of the dominant religion were intermittently compelled by sumptuary laws to wear badges, hats, bells or other items of clothing that distinguished them from members of the dominant religious group.
The yellow badge that was compulsory in the Middle Ages was revived by the German Nazis."
    Source and further information:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_badge

    3) A white cane for blind or visually impaired people makes much more sense:

"A white cane is used by many people who are blind or visually impaired, both as a mobility tool and as a courtesy to others. Not all modern white canes are designed to fulfill the same primary function, however: There are at least five different varieties of this tool, each serving a slightly different need."

When Hitler stated that all Jews in occupied Denmark would have to wear yellow stars to designate who they were, King Christian II of Denmark decreed that all Danes would also wear yellow stars.
