I am not trying to insult anyone here. Just a curious question regarding animal rights activists views. What is your take on cows in India? When you see them wandering around all skin and bone.

I think it's a damn shame that, besides the people starving, the animals are starving, too. Nobody can afford to feed them! Why not eat them and solve two sets of problems? They're basically happy meals with legs. +5

Aren't Cows a sacred animal in Hinduism? And isn't India heavily populated with Hindi?

So why would you EAT something that's sacred to you and your religion?

    Just doesn't make sense...

I am not an animal rights person, but I can answer this.

The Cows in India are actually more healthy, American cows are given growth hormones, so they are fat. The ones in India maintain a more natural state, remember they have to be able to run from Tigers. If bovine here were allowed to rome loose and become more wild, they would get smaller and faster.

I feel very bad for the poor cows. If they're the animals that get treated best; then how are the others doing?

I wonder how grass shortages occur. I am not a bovine animal, but if I were I'd rather be underfed in India than have all you can eat in an American CAFO. Notice how the American cows do not have their calves with them. Do American cows give their calves up for adoption to veal producers?

I'm not an activist, but efforts to allay the plight of animals are worthy of consideration. I am willing to give up trivial interests to avoid supporting industries which systemically confine, brutalize, and slaughter animals. I don't think that giving up a few products I don't need anyway makes me an activist.

    We miss our girl!

I'm not necessarily an activist (I don't eat meat, but I don't tell anyone else they shouldn't...in fact, I usually end up cooking it for the rest of my family), but that makes me sad. No different than seeing those awful commercials with the abused animals (I know that's how they get donations, but I'd be depressed all day if I watched them!) or seeing people who are so poor that they can't eat. I feel awful seeing anyone (human or animal) in a bad way.

I believe they are considered sacred animals in India and are not to be killed. If they were revered in such a way; wouldn't it make sense that their government should have a fund to feed them?. I think it's animal cruelty and there are organizations like WSPA to speak for them. I don't know how the Indians see them. I'm not up on what their beliefs are.
