The last time mine did that it was because when I reinstalled the heatsink on the CPU, I didn't get it lined up properly. The thing went from room temperature to about 180F in under a minute, then the motherboard shut the PC off to protect itself from frying.
There are many possible causes. Your computer may not be able to cool down, thus overheating. The bios could be bad. Your operating system could be bad. I'd take it in to a computer shop and see what they have to say.
Lightning struck near my house last night causing my accidentally plugged in laptop to spark at the place where it was plugged in. the laptop works but refuses to charge. Is this an internal problem or a problem with the power cord?

I plugged my computer into a station that was running 230v power. It will no longer turn on of course. I would like to know what will need to be replaced to repair it. I was thinking it would be the whole power supply, am I correct?
