Shows like "I Love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners" were filmed on 16mm film while TV viewers in the Eastern and Central (US) time zones were watching the live broadcast, then viewers in the Mountain and Pacific times zones would either watch a second live broadcast, or a showing of the previously filmed live broadcast.
Others were filmed using the very poor-quality kinescope process, which was where a movie camera was aimed at a TV monitor in the studio and was filmed from that.

If that is the case then there was no editing for commercials were performed in the show and the mistakes that were made by the actors were shown.Apparently the first taped show started on NBC in 1958.
