They are supposed to be the same. Prodistant and Catholic are both Christian religions, Christ based, the difference being not having an earthly priest to go to for forgiveness etc.

One is annoying, judicial and mean, the other is the same thing just more discriminatory.

Christianity is a faith, of which Catholicism is one of many branches. Some other branches are Baptist, Anglican and Lutheran. So you can't really answer your question, it would be like asking, "What is the difference between me and my arm?"

BryInLanza is correct, Catholicism is one form of Christianity. Centuries ago, the Catholic church was very dominant and had little competition. In 1517, a monk named Martin Luther went on a bit of a tear, protesting some of the practices of the church. He broke off and formed a new church (thus the name "protestant"). The current Lutheran church still traces their legacy back to Luther. Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, and many other Protestant branches have split off from this original break with the Catholic church -- they're all considered Protestant: they protest Catholicism.

In reference to Baptist believers, although referred to as "Protestant", Baptist have never protested any groups of faith, we only advocate and contend for our own beliefs. Ephesians 4:5; II Timothy 3:16-17 Those who protested and separated from the Catholic church are Lutheran, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Methodist and their off-spring. Baptist stand with Jude, verses 3-4. We have not always been known by this name. We were called the Way, Disciples or Anabapitst. We were first called Christians at Antioch. Acts 11:26 The Roman Catholic Church was founded in 590 A.D. by Gregory the Great and headed by the Pope. Baptist was founded by Christ in 32 A.D. and headed by Christ. Colossians 1:18 Edit: 1520 Martin Luther left the Roman Church and established the Lutheran Church. 1534 King Henry VIII left the Roman Catholic Church and established the Episcopal Church. 1536 John Calvin and John Know left the Roman Catholic Church and established the Presbyterian Church. 1600 Robert Brown left the Episcopal Church and established the Congregational Church. 1740 John Wesley left the Episcopal Church and established the Methodist Church. 1810 Alexander Campbell left the Presbyterian Church and established the Disciples of Christ. 1816 William Miller left the Baptist Church and established the Adventist Church. 1827 Elder George Faster left the Baptist Church and established the Primitive Baptist. 1830 Joseph Smith and Brigham Young left the Baptist Church and established the Mormon Church and Latter Day Saints Church. 1849 Joseph Bates left the Adventist Church and established the 7th Day Adventist Church. 1878 Mary Eddy Baker established the Christian Science Church. 1897 Howard Hopple left the Methodist Church and established the Sanctified Church. 1895 C.H. Mason left the Baptist Church and established the Holiness Movement. Known by some as the Church of God. There's more but this gives some idea as to who and when.

I am sorry but I don't understand the question. there is no difference since Catholics are christians. Did you mean to ask what is the difference between Catholics and Protestants? (beleive it or not protestants are not the only *christians*)

A Catholic is but a type of Christian.

Yes SB is southern...my family is currently SB, but they started out as Primative Baptist...so very very conservative and very anti-catholic. I grew up listening to sermons being preached from the pulpit about the RCC being the church of satan, the pope being the anti christ and Mary being the whore of babylon....so when I got older I started researching (I figured I wanted to see just why the RCC scared the baptist so badly)... a good place to start is the bible itself. But you have to just read it...without inserting the explanations the baptist church uses to explain the parts they don't like (like Peter is the rock, and this *is* my body, etc, the water into wine (ask a rabbi about the teaching that it wasn't *real* wine..after all it was a jewish ceremony). Then check out the texts in the Vatican library...authenticated texts going back to the 1st century that discribe how worship was conducted and what was taught (the current catholic service is almost identical..the baptist not even close)... I don't agree with all of the teachings of the RCC..but when you look at only the evidence (without inserting *it means this*...then it becomes clear that the RCC was the original church and their services and beliefs are the closest to the original worshipers...

from an Evangelical Christian perspective: The differences can be summed up in the four great slogans of the Prodestant Reformation: Prodestant Evangelicals believe Christians are 1) Saved by God's grace (undeserved merit) alone 2) manifested primarily through Christ alone (in particular His atoning death and resurection) 3) revealed to us through Scripture alone (the final authority in matters of what Christians believe and how they are to live) 4) to be received through faith (trust, dependance) alone. For Catholics, (at least pre-Vatican 2) 1) They are saved by God's grace alone too, (but for them God's grace is defined as God's power) 2) (forgive the crudeness of the explanation) God's grace was deposited in heaven through Christ's work 3) God is revealed through Scripture and church tradition 4) God's grace is received through the channel of the Church and it's seven sacraments.
