nevets: since you're here, it's worth noting that one of Luther's darker aspects was some very anti-semitic views. The Lutheran church has distanced itself from those and considers them unacceptable, but many historians consider them to have contributed to anti-semitism in Nazi Germany.

hence their name!

stableboy, I didn;t know any of that either... and I took all sorts of religious history! Man, I did sleep through college! Thanks for the info!

Well that link seems to get the history right. Wikipedia also covers this aspect of Luther in a thorough article on his life.

Sounds historical to me. Although I don’t agree with everything on the following web-sites, they do somewhat touch on history:

My advice... is: First, that their synagogues be burned down, and that all who are able toss sulphur and pitch; it would be good if someone could also throw in some hellfire.."

Nazi Supporters
The Nazis won their support primarily from the lower middle class and the peasantry. These voters were strongly nationalistic in their political views and feared that the depression would deprive them of their standard of living. In religion, most of the Nazis' supporters were Protestants. German Catholics remained firm in their support of the Catholic Center Party.

Stormarm is a Lutheran minister. I wonder what he thinks of the "Luther was an anti-Semite" view.

I wonder what he would think about the United States holocaust Memorial Museum?
I was curious as to what religion he was as he is pretty addiment about Clergy being paid in some threads as well as defending religions involvement in the persecution and killing of those considered heretics in the name of the Prince of Peace.
