Good for you! Television is a worthless expense.
I've given up fast food for breakfast and lunch....I brown bag my meals from now on.
I had a funny, but dickish response to this question all written out until I realized that your question was because you're going through hard times.
Border Patrol is hiring right now if you're under 40 or have military time. Starting pay is 38k/year and when you leave the Academy, it goes up to 49k. A month after the Academy, you go up to 57k.
You will most likely have to live on the southern border, though.
Just a thought and good luck.
For a while, I didn't eat out, or go shopping. Now I eat out once in a while, and rarely go shopping
Lucky, I've never even had cable. For a while I didn't buy tp and used napkins from Jack in the Box to save money.

I thought about brown-bagging it but the savings just aren't there. You do save some, but it's a dollar or two a day, at best. And over 20 work days, it means less than $50/mo. If that will make or break you, then more power to you. But refridgeration costs, shopping costs, meal prep time, etc. It all comes into play. I skip breakfast, eat something light for lunch, and then eat out nearly every night at work. Daily, I spend about $10, so over a month, my food bills are around $300. And that includes the obligatory Monster and coffee. I could easily cut that down to $200/mo for my total food bills. How many people can say that they spend $200/mo on food? And I still eat out daily.

Fast food sure can eat up a paycheck

I've given up fast food, almost anyway. Once a month, if that even, I get something. I don't eat regular meals because of my hours at work, so my food costs are pretty low, $20 a week for neccesities, milk bread, rice, potatoes. I get veggies and meat frozen and in large packs so they last me longer. So I spend about $150/month on food.
